The Pfannemüller Family Letters

Our family history is spread across many continents: Europe, Asia, and South America.

Part of our history started in Germany, then moved to China; Jacob Henrich Pfannemüller and his wife Ida (geb. Hallbach) were German missionaries in China, working with the Allianz-China-Mission in Nanfeng, in the Kiangsi province.

In 1925 their 18-year-old son Samuel immigrated from Germany to Brazil. After that, Samuel would only see his father one more time…

As years passed letters between parents and son left a trail of the love that endure the distance… sometimes an uplifting word, sometimes a nudge, sometimes worry, sometimes words of wisdom.

The correspondence that they exchanged during these years apart.

Here we are trying to gather together and share the pieces of our history. The history of the Pfannemüller family through the correspondence they exchanged during these years apart.

All letter were written in German, but few of the Brazilian descendents speak German. So this site is a group effort to gather material, transcribe from Gothic German handwriting, translate from German to Portuguese, and more.

Suggestion, comments, help with translations, and any help is very welcomed!
